Após o término do projeto Gênesis, uma investigação fotográfica da natureza ainda intocada de nosso planeta, Sebastião Salgado voltou seu olhar para o Brasil, seu país natal, mais precisamente para a Amazônia. Durante sete anos o artista viajou pela Amazônia brasileira, fotografando a floresta, os rios, as montanhas e as pessoas que ali vivem.
Esta exposição proporcionou um mergulho na floresta Amazônica, unindo as impressionantes imagens de Salgado ao som da selva. O farfalhar das árvores, os gritos dos animais, o canto dos pássaros ou o ruído das águas descendo pelas montanhas, transformou-se numa paisagem sonora mágica, do compositor Jean-Michel Jarre. A exposição destacou a fragilidade desse ecossistema, mostrando áreas protegidas, onde comunidades indígenas, guardiãs ancestrais da terra, vivem em territórios praticamente intocados da floresta.
After completing the Genesis project, a photographic exploration of the planet’s untouched nature, Sebastião Salgado turned his gaze towards his home country of Brazil, specifically the Amazon region. Over the course of seven years, Salgado travelled throughout the Brazilian Amazon, capturing images of the forest, rivers, mountains, and the people who inhabit the region.
This exhibition offered visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the Amazon rainforest, featuring Salgado’s impressive images alongside the sounds of the jungle. The rustling of trees, animal cries, birdsong and the roar of water plunging down from mountain tops have been transformed into a magical soundscape by the composer Jean-Michel Jarre. The exhibition highlighted the fragility of this ecosystem, showcasing protected areas where indigenous communities, the ancestral guardians of the environment, inhabit territories where the forest has suffered almost no damage.
